A post-doctoral fellow position is being opened for research in molecular virology at the University of Utah – School of Medicine. NCI/NIH-funded projects focus on the host-pathogen relationship between oncogenic herpesviruses and the host cell. Particular areas of interest are host restriction of virus reactivation, EBV and KSHV RNA-binding proteins involved in gene regulation, virus chromatin interactions, and drug discovery targeting EBV and KSHV proteins. Responsibilities The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to planning experiments and writing manuscripts and grant applications in addition to carrying out bench research. The job will require preparation of manuscripts for publication, regular presentations at group meetings, assistance with reports and grant applications, and collaboration with other scientists and clinicians in the field. Minimum Qualifications The successful candidate will have skills and recent experience with cloning, cell culture, sequence analysis, and RT-PCR. Recent hands-on experience with deep sequencing, protein expression, immunoassays (ELISA and Western Blot), herpesvirology, and the analysis of large datasets would be very helpful. An ability to work in a team environment is also important. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. The laboratories of Stefan Pulst, MD, and Daniel Scoles, PhD, in the Department of Neurology are looking for two post-doctoral fellows to conduct research on adult-onset neurodegenerative diseases. Our focus is on cerebellar degenerations as well as motor neuron disease and FTD. Our interests range from RNA stress granule formation and the role of RNA-binding proteins in regulating autophagy and the integrated stress response to the development of RNA-based therapeutics that target key molecules involved in these pathways. We have long-term NIH funding to support these positions. Responsibilities Minimum Qualifications Preferences Postdocs: Ability to apply for NIH training grants and to be supported by our existing three T32 grants (genomic medicine, development of novel therapeutics, neuroimmunology) is required for one of the positions. One position is ideal for a clinically trained neurologist interested in learning therapeutic development.
